Environmental Fate
The assessment of the fate and behaviour in the environment of biocidal active substances and biocidal products is a critical part of the evaluation process under the BPD. We offer specialist support in every area.
A robust database of studies is required to provide data on the fate and behaviour of the biocidal active substance and the biocidal product in the environment. Predicted Environmental Concentrations (PEC) of active substances in each environmental compartment are calculated to provide the basic exposure values used in the environmental risk assessment. PEC values can also be compared with important triggers for further higher tier testing.EUSES and specific Emission Scenario Documents (ESD’s) form the basic tools used to calculate Predicted Environmental Concentrations (PEC) in soil, groundwater, surface water and air. However, determining the appropriate input values for the models, even for the initial assessment can be quite challenging. JSC has extensive experience with ESD’s, a comprehensive understanding of the models required and an appreciation of how the biocidal product is used. This expertise allows us to refine the input parameters to produce higher tier assessments and present detailed modelling to regulatory authorities.
