Mark Peatman
Human safety assessor (and badminton player)
Mark joined JSC in 2008 and uses his knowledge of agrochemicals, biocides and REACH to support the residues, physical chemistry and analytical methods sections of projects. He also conducts risk assessments for consumers, operators, bystanders, workers and residents.
Mark worked for 24 years in the Agrochemical Industry for a large multinational company. Continuing further education studies, Mark achieved the GRSC qualification from the Royal Society of Chemistry, later converted to an MRSC. Working in Residue Analysis, Mark focused on data generation studies on crops, feed and environmental matrices. This included method development, animal transfer, soil dissipation and design / management of crop residue trials programmes. Using his product knowledge, Mark worked on the first dossiers prepared under Directive 91/414 EEC for the residue sections, including the consumer risk assessment. Following a move, Mark worked in the project teams from the company base in Lyon, France, contributing to the product development groups with respect to residues and consumer safety.
After returning to the UK, Mark worked for a leading CRO company with responsibility for managing client projects and overseeing the analytical studies for agrochemical, veterinary and pharmaceutical industries.
Married with two school age children, 1 dog and 2 cats, Mark is a keen racket sports player and the game of badminton has featured throughout his life. Mark’s children also play badminton and represent the county of Yorkshire in the junior squads playing matches and tournaments. Gardening, dog-walking and home decorating projects take up the rest of available time leaving too few opportunities for European travel and family holidays, but a love for the French lifestyle means that trips to the South of France are often planned and eagerly awaited!
