Comparative Assessment: Draft EPPO Guidance on Efficacy and Resistance Management Aspects
The UK regulatory authority (CRD) has recently commissioned a consultation exercise on draft guidance that has been prepared by EPPO on the efficacy aspects of comparative assessment, following extensive discussion among member country and industry experts. Regulation EC 1107/2009 concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market, requires that comparative assessment and substitution is conducted as part of the registration procedure for plant protection products. This procedure will apply by 2014 and will involve those substances identified as candidates for substitution. In particular CRD is seeking thoughts and ideas from interested parties by 11 February 2011 as follows:
- is the draft assessment scheme practical for approval holders to use? CRD anticipates applications will include the approval holder’s own comparative assessment of their product
- is sufficient information to complete the assessment for approved products available? For example: label information, published regulatory ‘end points’
- what information is available for non-chemical alternatives? Where can this be found?
- in your opinion does the draft guidance cover all of the efficacy and resistance aspects required by the regulation?
