CRD advise on submission of ecotoxicological risk assessments

The UK regulatory authority (CRD) has issued new advice on the guidance that should be used for ecotoxicological risk assessments submitted in the UK under Regulation 1107/2009.

The EFSA guidance document (European Food Safety Authority. Risk Assessment for Birds and Mammals. EFSA Journal 2009; 7(12):1438), should be applied for new active substances and Annex I renewals submitted after 1 July 2010, that will be reviewed by EFSA.  Product dossiers should also be submitted in accordance with the EFSA guidance document.  However, CRD will exercise flexibility in this regard and will continue to accept assessments made in accordance with either SANCO or EFSA guidance for a transitional period.  In all cases the use of either guidance will need to be scientifically justified and appropriate to the use being requested.
