CRD announces introduction of new larger aquatic buffer zones for horizontal boom sprayers
The UK regulatory authority (CRD) has announced an interim extension to the Local Environmental Risk Assessments (LERAP) scheme which enables plant protection products to be authorised with aquatic buffer zone distances greater than the current maximum distance of 5 metres.Pending the receipt of results from various research projects CRD has decided that as an interim measure larger aquatic buffer zones of up to 20 metres will be permitted. These buffer zones will be applied on a crop basis rather than a product basis, unlike the current LERAP scheme. This interim measure will remain in place until the review of risk assessment and management practices has been completed and a new revised LERAP scheme introduced.
The LERAP scheme for broadcast air-assisted sprayers is not affected by these changes and remains the same as currently published.
