Ecotoxicology

The environmental risk assessment for plant protection products requires a robust ecotoxicology database to provide data on the effects on indicator species. We have a wide range of experience and expertise in all areas of ecotoxicology.

JSC are actively involved in a number of expert groups developing methodology and guidelines at EU level, including the new data requirements under the New Council Regulation. We subsequently have practical experience of all levels of ecotoxicological testing, from laboratory through to field. This experience enables us to put together and implement study packages to meet specific project requirements.

If the initial data gap analysis and Tier I risk assessment identify any areas of concern, it may be necessary to conduct additional higher tier testing, which requires detailed knowledge of the various test organisms and associated methodology in order to design and implement appropriate customised study designs. JSC has extensive experience of this level of testing and are able to provide expert interpretation to maximise the benefit of these studies and ensure a successful regulatory outcome.
