Ed Pilling
Ecotoxicology specialist (and SCUBA diver)
Having spent many years working in a multinational agrochemical company, Ed joined JSCi in 2011 to apply his experience to consultancy.
Ed completed his PhD at Southampton University studying the synergistic effects of agrochemicals on honeybees. He then joined Zeneca Agrochemicals in 1993, working within their Ecological Risk Assessment group. His first role at Zeneca was based in the Philippines, investigating the effects of insecticides on beneficial insects in rice. Being fascinated by insects, he went on to lead a team in Insecticide Discovery, looking for the next big area for insect control. During the formation of Syngenta in 2000, Ed decided to broaden his experience and moved to Sydney Australia working as a Regulatory Affairs specialist. The sun and surf couldn’t keep him away from the UK and in 2003 returned to lead the Terrestrial Ecology group at Syngenta. He subsequently went on to lead the Global Environmental Risk Characterisation group at Syngenta, before leaving to join JSCi.
When not working, Ed has a passion for SCUBA diving with a particular fascination for diving with sharks and shark conservation. He also likes spending time with his family and hopes to train his two daughters to dive when they are old enough.
