The UK has published regulations prohibiting the use of microbeads as an ingredient in the manufacture of rinse-off personal care products and the sale of any such products containing microbeads

 

The UK has published the following Statutory Instrument:

 

2017 No. 1312

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, ENGLAND

The Environmental Protection (Microbeads) (England) Regulations 2017

The regulations were made on 19 December 2017 and prohibits the manufacture or sale of such products. The prohibition of manufacturing comes into force 21 days after these Regulations were made and the prohibition of sale of any such products comes into force 6 months after the day on which these Regulations are made.

These Regulations extend to England and Wales, but apply in relation to England only.
