ECHA now provide emission estimation spreadsheets for up to fifteen product types (the latest of which are for Product Type 21: antifouling products), to assist with the assessment of the environmental risk that biocidal products may pose. In recent years, there has been an increase on the focus of the potential risk biocidal products may have on the environment, which has seen environmental risk assessments undergo more scrutiny at the Member State level, as well as by ECHA.
Whilst guidance is available for most product types in the form of the Emission Scenario Documents (ESDs), additional information is often required in order to assess appropriately the product and its use. It can be difficult to estimate the environmental impact of a product, without resorting to using worst-case conservative values, however this is something that ERM can advise on.
At ERM, we strive to stay up-to-date on risk assessment and regulatory issues in order to provide the best outcome for our clients. For advice on risk assessment and further information on the registration of plant protection products, biocides or general chemicals, or any other regulatory issues, please contact us on +44 (0)1423 520245, firstname.lastname@example.org
